In the Student’s Own Words-
Texas Thespians is a convention that our actors and technicians go to once a year in November. Texas Thespians is part of the Educational Theatre Association which sponsors the International Thespian Society (ITS). In 1972 Texas Thespians was founded in Grapevine. In 2022, it was the 50th anniversary of the convention and the first time it was held in not only Grapevine, but San Antonio as well.
At the Texas Thespians convention there are a multitude of classes and workshops available for students and directors to take. Some of the classes include learning a dance from a Broadway show, stage fighting, acting workshops, and many more. There are also opportunities to compete at the convention. This includes not only Texas only competitions, but national qualifying events too. Some of these events are monologues, duets, dance, singing, various tech events, etc. And finally, there are college auditions available for Juniors and Seniors.
We are a registered troop for the convention and our troop number is 3128. We go to Texas Thespians to learn a different set of skills and techniques to bring back to our school. While there, we meet a lot of different people who can give us feedback on our performances. Some of these people include famous playwrights, Broadway actors and dancers, and actors and technicians our own age. But the main reason we go is for the experience and the fun we have as a troop.
